According to foreign media reports, Intel launched a new round of layoffs this week, affecting an unknown number of employees in its sales and marketing departments.

An Intel spokesperson confirmed on Thursday local time that the company had made layoffs as part of its restructuring, but did not provide any further details.

"To continue delivering on the company's strategy and delivering results for customers, Intel [Sales and Marketing Group] announced changes to its organizational structure," an Intel representative said in a statement.

"We are confident in Intel's future and committed to supporting all employees through this process, including treating those affected with respect," they added.

It's the latest move since Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger announced in October 2022 that the semiconductor giant planned to cut spending by as much as $10 billion through 2025 in response to a "sudden and significant slowdown in demand." A round of layoffs.

The company has not disclosed how many employees it has laid off since then. The only data Intel disclosed were individual layoffs affecting 50 or more employees in its California offices within a 30-day period, as required by the state's Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.

The layoffs were implemented the same week that Intel outlined a new financial reporting structure that separates the company's product design business from its chip manufacturing business, revealing that the former suffered a $7 billion operating loss last year.

Intel is spinning off these businesses as it aims to transform its chip manufacturing unit, now known as Intel Foundry, into an independent chip foundry business to compete with Asian foundry giants TSMC and Samsung.
