According to foreign media reports, General Motors will pay a fine of nearly $146 million to the US federal government because 5.9 million of its vehicles did not meet emissions and fuel economy standards.
It is understood that the vehicles involved are mainly pickup trucks and SUVs from the 2012 to 2018 models, and the carbon dioxide emissions of these vehicles are more than 10% higher than what GM claimed in its compliance report. The affected models include Chevrolet Tahoe, Cadillac Escalade and Chevrolet Silverado.
In response, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said that GM has agreed to give up about 50 million tons of carbon emission quotas.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that GM will pay a fine of $145.8 million for fuel economy compliance issues and cancel more than 30.6 million fuel economy credits for the 2008-2010 model years to address problems found in the EPA light vehicle in-use test program.
However, these cars will continue to be on the road and GM will not recall them.
In addition, GM recently announced the electric vehicle delivery data for the second quarter of 2024. A total of 21,930 electric vehicles were delivered in the second quarter, a month-on-month increase of 34% and a year-on-year increase of 40%.
It is reported that GM's total deliveries in the second quarter were 696,086 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 0.6%.
GM also mentioned that dealers have effectively met customer needs using the CDK platform. The company expects that some deliveries may be postponed to the third quarter.
