International Electronics Business News According to foreign media reports, the iPhone 16 series will not be equipped with Touch ID technology.

Since Apple launched the iPhone X equipped with a new facial recognition system called Face ID in 2017, Touch ID authentication technology seems to have been abandoned by Apple. Foreign media recently reported that the iPhone 16 series will not be equipped with Touch ID technology, and future devices will no longer be equipped with this technology.

In addition, according to Weibo from phone man, Apple will no longer use fingerprint recognition as a way to unlock mobile phones. The equipment used for Apple's fingerprint recognition has been shut down and sealed.

Currently, Apple only offers Touch ID on its iPhone SE series.

Industry insiders believe that Apple abandoned Touch ID technology because it was working on embedding the TrueDepth camera sensor under the display. This will enable iPhones to feature the Face ID authentication system under the display, allowing for a full-screen user experience.

However, rumors about Apple re-enabling Touch ID on iPhones have been circulating for some time. The company is also working on the next-generation iPhone SE 4, which will ditch Touch ID and house all the components of Face ID. The company may consider ditching Touch ID entirely, or working on an entirely new authentication system mechanism.

Note that if the company plans to re-enable Touch ID, it won't use Touch ID in the Home or Power buttons. We previously reported that the company was exploring the option of integrating Touch ID under the display, similar to Samsung and other Android smartphone makers. However, if Apple follows through on plan, its performance may be slightly different. It remains to be seen whether Apple will use Face ID or Touch ID placed underneath the display.

According to previous reports, Apple plans to make the above changes on the iPhone in 2026. The source’s claims are indeed credible as it is the first to detail that the iPhone 14 will be powered by the same chip as its predecessor. Regardless, take this news with a grain of salt, as the final decision rests with Apple.
