After 74% of Samsung Electronics union members voted in favor of a strike, the union obtained the legal right to strike. The union plans to hold peaceful protests in the workplace. This will be the union's first strike in 55 years since its establishment in 1969.

According to industry insiders, five Samsung Electronics unions voted for and against strike action from March 18 to April 5.

The voting results showed that 20,853 of the 27,458 union members participated in the vote, of which 20,330 (accounting for 74% of all union members) supported the strike. Among voters, 97.5% expressed approval. The union therefore legally gained the right to strike after the Central Labor Relations Board (Labor Relations Board) decided to suspend mediation following the breakdown of labor talks in February.

It is reported that the Samsung Electronics labor union and management held the sixth round of salary negotiations in February. The two parties failed to reach a consensus, so the union requested arbitration from the Central Labor Committee. March 14 was the third time the Central Labor Committee intervened, but the two sides still failed. Negotiated.

The Samsung Electronics Union stated that it was preparing to hold a peaceful strike at Samsung DSR Tower in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province on April 17. On the same day, the union sent a formal letter to Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-yong, Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee and other management, informing them of the incident. dispute.

The results of these negotiations gave the union the right to legally strike through a member vote. The union demanded a 6.5% salary increase and an increase in paid leave, but Samsung executives only agreed to a 5.1% salary increase. Since Samsung Electronics was founded in 1969, there has never been a strike!
