China has introduced guidelines to phase out U.S. microprocessors from Intel and AMD from government personal computers and servers, the Financial Times reported on March 24.
The "Desktop Computer Government Procurement Demand Standards (2023 Edition)" issued by China's Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology was published on the official website of the Ministry of Finance on December 26 last year.
China's introduction of this procurement demand standard means that government personal computers and servers will gradually stop using microprocessors from these two American companies. At the same time, the Chinese government is also seeking to reduce purchases of Microsoft's Windows operating system and foreign-made database software.
According to the notice issued on the official website of the Ministry of Finance on the issuance of the "Desktop Computer Government Procurement Demand Standards (2023 Edition)", party and government agencies at or above the township level, as well as party committees and government directly affiliated institutions at or above the township level and institutions affiliated to departments that provide support and guarantees for the agencies, in When purchasing desktop computers, the safety and reliability evaluation requirements for the CPU and operating system should be included in the procurement requirements.
The purpose of this procurement demand standard is to give priority to domestic products and replace Microsoft Windows operating systems and foreign-made database software. It is reported that Chinese government department procurement has begun to follow this procurement demand standard.
Currently, Intel and AMD have not responded to this news.
