Qorvo (NASDAQ: QRVO), a leading global provider of connectivity and power solutions, announced the expansion of its 5G base station product line. Qorvo's QPB3810 is a gallium nitride (GaN)-based power amplifier module (PAM) with integrated bias control for 5G massive MIMO (mMIMO) applications; Qorvo's new QPB9362 serves as a highly integrated front-end low-noise Amplifier (LNA) module for 5G TDD systems. These devices expand Qorvo's broad product portfolio for mMIMO applications and are key building blocks in a new RF front-end reference design to accelerate the adoption of mMIMO systems.

"We are pleased to continue our close collaboration with Qorvo to create high-performance 5G solutions using industry-leading AMD Zynq UltraScale RFSoC DFE devices," said Anthony Collins, Director of 5G Wireless and RF Ecosystem at AMD. and optimized reference designs are key to reducing risk and shortening time-to-market for their radio products."

The QPB3810 is the first commercially available GaN module released as a 48V, 8W average PAM covering the 3.4-3.8GHz frequency band; its integrated bias controller is factory programmed to set the optimal bias for the Doherty PAM point. The controller includes a temperature sensor that automatically adjusts the bias over temperature, and an enable pin for fast TDD switching. The QPB3810 is housed in a compact 12 mm × 8 mm SMT package, which significantly reduces board space compared to traditional discrete component solutions. Like other Qorvo PAM products, the QPB3810 requires minimal external circuitry. Based on AMD ZynqTM Ultrascale+TM RFSoC DFE adaptive wireless system chip and digital pre-distortion IP, the linearity of QPB3810 has been verified to exceed 5G requirements at 400MHz instantaneous bandwidth.

The QPB9362 targets 5G wireless infrastructure applications based on TDD mMIMO architecture configurations. This switching LNA module integrates an LNA with a high power handling switch; this switch can be used as a failsafe path to terminate operation during radio transmission. In receive mode, the QPB9362 provides 34.5dB gain and 1.1dB typical noise figure over the entire operating frequency band. LNA power-down mode can be implemented through a transmit/receive control pin on the module. The product is housed in a compact 5 mm × 3 mm LGA package that is RoHS compliant.

"Qorvo's 5G modules create an optimal solution that minimizes cost, maximizes performance, and increases capacity in mMIMO designs," said Tuan Nguyen, product line director of Qorvo's Infrastructure Solutions business. Continued expansion globally and greater integration at the board level reflects our focus on ease of use and efficiency."

The QPB3810 and QPB9362 are included in a complete RF front-end reference design for 5G mMIMO applications, available now from Qorvo. This small size reference design provides a transmit/receive RF solution from baseband front end to antenna filter. The transmitter lineup includes the QPA9122M wideband high linearity pre-driver, the QPB3810, a directional coupler for DPD monitoring, and a circulator; the receive path includes the QPB9362.
